Oliveros el Padrino edition Italiana bugsy
Sorry, no pictures, I lost them during a hard disk crash before I could upload them.

This Oliveros Padrino Edicion Italiana is called Bugsy and has a size of 5.7 inch and a ring of 52. The cigar has a filler of Piloto Cubano Dominican and some rare Italian tobaccos and the wrapper is a triple fermented Brazilian maduro. The wrapper is almost black with a couple of nice looking veins. The band is quite pompous. The cigar feels well constructed and has a nice full hay aroma. The peppery raisin predraw is fine.

I get a full coffee flavor with a bit of sugar. The flavors feel sticky. After half an inch the sugary sweetness grows a bit stronger and the flavors start to feel dry. After an inch the sugar changes into sweet chocolate and the coffee loses some of it strength. The chocolate disappears and the sugar returns. The sugar becomes the dominant flavor with a mild chocolate aftertaste. At 2/3rd I also taste some wood.

The cigar produces a lot of white smoke. The ash is medium dark gray and quite firm. I had some minor burn issues. I would rate this cigar as full flavored medium bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? No, I wasn’t impressed

Rocky Patel summer 2008 toro grande
Sorry, no pictures, I lost them during a hard disk crash before I could upload them.

This 6 x 58 Rocky Patel from the Summer 2008 collection was given to me by Hardcz, way before he got banned from the board. The Ecuadorian Grown Wrapper from Sumatra Seed is very oily with a few long thin veins and the construction feels quite hard. The ‘bling bling’ cigar band is pretty and stands out from other cigar bands. The cigar has a strong barnyard aroma. I punched the cigar and got a fine predraw with a black pepper flavor.

I can taste a mild coffee flavor without any supporting flavors. The strength of the flavor mellows down after half an inch and a few puffs later I can taste some chocolate as aftertaste. Both flavors are quite mild. After the mid section of the cigar I can taste a mild pepper for just a moment, and the flavors become a bit creamy. The flavors also grow a bit in strength. I get a freshness with a mild herbal feeling to it combined with a mild creamy chocolate. After 2/3rd the chocolate gains a bit more power, but it never becomes full flavored.

This cigar produces a lot of smoke. The draw is on the light side but acceptable and the ash is close to white and firm. I needed to correct the burn a few times. The cigar is mild to medium flavored and medium bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? No, this cigar is another Rocky Patel that doesn’t fit my palate

Padron 1926 80th anniversary perfecto
Sorry, no pictures, I lost them during a hard disk crash before I could upload them.

This perfecto shaped 6.75 x 54 figurado was a cigar that I had high expectations from. The cigar is supposed to be fantastic, a theory that is supported by the outrageous price tag and the hype that comes with it. The wrapper is nice, dark and leathery, and the top of the cigar is a bit crooked.

The cigar isn’t smoothly finished, I expected a smoother look from a highly praised and expensive product. The wrapper also has some veins running over it and to my surprise, I can slide the band straight of the cigar. The cigar feels well constructed though, and has a very nice dark chocolate aroma to it. The predraw is a bit on the hard side and gives a flavor that reminded me of chocolates and raisin.

I can taste a bitter coffee flavor with a hint of dark chocolate and after a few puffs also some cedar. The bitterness fades away after about half an inch and soon the coffee and chocolate disappear too. A herbal flavor joins the cedar wood flavor. The herbal flavor is the aftertaste

After an inch I can taste some hazelnuts with chocolate and herbs. Somewhere in the mid section of the cigar the nut flavor disappears and I can taste some mild creamy chocolate with a hint of coffee and a herbal aftertaste. The coffee and the chocolate are well balanced, the herbs support this, but slowly grow in strength until they become the dominant flavor and the coffee and chocolate are downgraded to supporting flavors and near the end disappear at all. All I can taste is a herbal taste with some pepper on the tongue, but the pepper disappears after I purge the cigars.

The cigar produces a lot of smoke, at first the smoke had a bit of a brown glare to it, but turned to completely white soon enough. The ash is granular, white and firm. The draw of this full flavored medium bodied cigar is just fine.

Would I buy this cigar again? Not for the price these are going for. I like the 40th anniversary better

Bolivar especiales #2 2009 German RE
This Bolivar is the thinnest regional edition so far and is made for the German market. It has a ring of 38 and is 192 millimeter long. The wrapper is light brown and somewhat rough with a few veins. The cigar has a typical Cuban aroma. The construction feels quite firm what is causing a bit hard predraw that gives me a mild peppery flavor.

Afbeelding

The first flavor I get is a full flavored typical Cuban leather flavor with a hint of pepper. The fullness of the flavor decreases a bit but there comes a herbal flavor in return.

Midway the leather is the dominant flavor again but that’s only the case for a short time, then it’s back to herbal time again with some nuts on the background. Near the end the cigar becomes a bit spicier and the nut flavor gains a bit in power.

Afbeelding

I get enough smoke, but the smoke is quite thin. The draw is a bit hard and the ash is firm but dark colored. The burn is straight, no complaints in that department. I would call the cigar, at this stage of its development medium bodied and flavored.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, but then I will rest them for a few years.

Bolivar petit belicoso LE2009
I was really looking forward to this year’s LE as I am a big fan of the Cuban brand Bolivar and this year one of the 3 LE’s would be a 4.9 x 52 Bolivar petit belicoso. The first ever Bolivar LE.

Afbeelding

The petit belicoso has a nice sharp looking point with a nice light brown colored wrapper. The cigar feels hard, but isn’t over packed as the predraw is a bit loose. The predraw leaves a wood and raisin flavor in my mouth. The aroma of the cigar is hard to detect and smells a bit like cow poop.

Afbeelding

Yuck, I taste a bitter, pungent and unpleasant coffee flavor. After a centimeter the worst harshness has gone, but I still get a harsh flavor in the back of my throat. After an inch some wood shines through the bitter harshness, but unfortunately some ash flavor joins the party too.
After reaching the middle of the cigar I lost the wood and ash and I can even taste some nuts beneath the harshness. At the 2/3rd point the harshness gets less but the cigar still isn’t pleasant to smoke

Afbeelding

The as is almost white and very dense. The ash broke halfway and I got some crooked burn after that, which I didn’t have to correct though. Before the breaking of the ash the burn was straight. The draw was fine. I get a lot of thick white smoke. This cigar is obviously way too young to be smoked.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, and rest them for at least 5 years before I smoke another one. Hopefully they are great by then and otherwise I will give them away.
